There are two types of Family-Based visa categories.
- Family Visa Categories
- Immediate Relatives
Family Visa Categories:
This category includes certain, family relatives to U.S. citizens as well as some specific relatives of lawful permanent residents. Each fiscal year, there is a limitation to the number of immigrants in these categories such as (F1, F2A, F2B, F3, and F4). The United States allows a specific number of family preference visas—226,000 per year—to alien relatives, who meet certain requirements.
Immediate Relatives:
This visa category includes close family members of a US citizen, such as a spouse, child, or parent (IR1, IR2, IR3, IR4, IR5). Each fiscal year, there is no limit on the number of immigrants in this category.
